P&O Nedlloyd is one of the three largest container carriers in the world, providing services to about 120 countries worldwide.

Need: Build a Global Operational Planning and Control System (ATLAS). ATLAS, when completed, will be deployed worldwide in 50 or more countries with 1000+ users who will be able to access and track information about a shipment from anywhere in the world.
Solution:

TechOne analyzed and designed Global Shipment Planning & Tracking, Regional Land Based Operations Planning, Terminal Management, Transportation Planning (Rail, Truck, Barges, Feeders), Consolidation and LCL Management, Fleet Management, EDI Integration (Premenos), Communication Management, and Security Management. The team also prepared strategy to integrate ATLAS with the existing legacy systems.
The key challenges were:

  • Interacting with a business user group from different regions of the world and understand their requirements and streamline core business processes in such a diversified environment.
  • Designing a system that is highly customizable, and which will cater to the local needs of each region/country.
  • Integrating ATLAS with existing legacy systems that were developed in Oracle, C and COBOL.

TechOne successfully met these challenges and completed the task within budget and agreed timeframe.

Technology: C++, UML, CORBA, Oracle, OOA, OOD

Boeing is the largest Aerospace Company in the world.

Need: Boeing wanted to reduce its sales-order to Delivery lead-time by half. Typical airliner construction involves a lot of customization driven by individual customer needs, which in turn costs time and money. As part of this initiative, they wanted to build a system that would reduce custom parts design time.
Solution:

Boeing has an inventory of several million part's designs in their data/knowledge base. TechOne designed and developed a "Preferred Parts Selection System" which provides an easy way to leverage the knowledge base to identify 'Preferred parts' from the design databases for each new aircraft order.

The solution involved three object servers, in a heterogeneous environment ranging from MVS to HP-UX. Orbix/MVS was used to wrap the legacy system, and Persistence O-R mapping tool was used to wrap the relational inventory databases. A question-answer session like interface was developed for users to easily interrogate the data / knowledge base.

Technology: UML, OOA/D, C++, CORBA / Orbix, Persistence, Oracle, MVS, HP-UX

Brightpoint Subscriber Services is a leader in fulfillment services for the wireless industry.

Need: Enable Brightpoint to conduct business over the Internet.
Solution:

The two main goals of this effort were:

1. Build and manage web-based order acceptance and fulfillment system, which could integrate with its legacy call center applications.

2. B2B integration of BSS systems with that of it's customers.

TechOne built and managed a web-based order entry system using leading edge technologies, and also built web-stores for BSS to accept and fulfill wireless phone and accessory orders over the Internet. We also built an XML based B2B integration platform that allows BSS to accept fulfillment requests directly from customers applications.

Technology: Java, EJB, Servlets, XML, JSP, 4D, WIN NT/95, UNIX

Embarcadero Systems Corporation provides IT services to Marine Terminal Corporation (MTC) a San Francisco based company. MTC is a third party service provider for terminal management to major shipping lines.

Need: Conceptualize a new 'Terminal Management System' that would eventually support the management of terminal operations. MTC requires this new system, which is highly extensible and modular in nature, so they can tailor it as per the processes followed in different marine terminals in which they operate or plan to operate in future.
Solution:

TechOne actively worked with the MTC user group to help them define their requirements and provided valuable suggestions for improvement of the current processes. TechOne team was involved in the analysis of the Gate Management, Rail Operations Planning, Yard Management and Vessel Operations.

Due to the critical nature of system and its sheer size, it was decided to migrate to the new system module by module, which posed the challenge of integrating the new system with the current legacy system. TechOne provided valuable input in these efforts, as well as in the integration of their EDI translator (Harbinger) with the existing system.

Technology: UML, and OOA/D, EDI

Home Shopping Network is a leading electronic retailer and reaches more than 137 million households globally through broadcast, cable and satellite dishes.

Need: Build a better system for 'Show Planning' that covers logistics planning and resource scheduling for hosting online shows.
Solution:

TechOne helped HSN in building the Persistence Object Model, Design and implementation of a transaction, cache and connection management component (a bridge pattern hiding the persistence related complexities), and the design and implementation of a message layer to send messages between clients and servers. A thin GUI client was also built

Technology: C++, VB, Solaris, Persistence, Oracle, Legacy Interfacing
